Neck Pain
Suffering from an irritating not chronic condition with the left side of my neck, I went online and decided to take a chance with seeking treatment from Lena Fong who is a member of the official British Acupuncturist body. I have not been to an acupuncturist for over 20 years so there was a degree of scepticism as to the outcome. I do not embrace alternative medical techniques readily. After 3 treatments I found that the problem had been alleviated .What particularly impressed me with Lena was the honest approach from the start reassuring me that she wanted to see me treated as quickly as possible and had no intention of getting patients to return for further treatment when there was no need. The sessions themselves were carried out on the basis of mutual trust. Lena always when putting the needles into the key channel points asked whether I could feel the effect of the needles and whether it was causing me any discomfiture. She would not do anything to discomfort the patient.Lena was very calming in manner, good humoured and was always keen on getting the patient’s input during the 45 minute appointment. I would recommend her.

Ankle Injury
I wish I had found Lena sooner. Her treatment has made a huge difference to the amount of pain I feel from an ankle injury which has affected me for several years. Her extensive knowledge enables her to give practical advice to enhance not only the treatment but also general health and wellbeing. I leave our sessions pain-free and relaxed which I ascribe to the combination of Lena’s professionalism and warmth.

Post-Chemo
As a 44 year-old woman I had recently completed a comprehensive course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy following extensive surgery for breast cancer. As a consequence of all the treatment and physical and emotional trauma I had experienced, I had the additional loss of my father in the last 12 months. I found I was suffering from broadcast aches and pains (fibromyalgia) that at times were very debilitating. I consulted with my GP, my oncologist, my surgeon and a rheumatologist who were only able to prescribe increasingly powerful painkillers and physiotherapy. I found very little relief from any of these treatments and so consulted a homeopath that only provided a slight improvement to my condition. I also explored other complementary therapies which helped me relax but didn’t address the central issue of significant daily pain.
I then contacted the Westoe Practice where I was referred to you for acupuncture 4 months ago. At this time I was still suffering from many aches and pains and found getting up stairs almost impossible, which having recently moved into a new job at the beginning of the year was quite awkward at times in a large rambling school. I was also feeling very exhausted and finding work a real challenge.
You took a detailed history of my medical condition including both physical and emotional aspects. I found you an excellent listener and very empathetic, asking relevant and pertinent questions that assist you in your treatment regime. You then explained what you were going to do and the benefits of the treatment. You prioritised my complaints and set about treating the most important ones first. You always explain what you are going to do and check that I understand what is happening to me and you regularly evaluate how I am progressing and make notes, which is reassuring that you are up to date with progress.
I find your approach to treatment is most professional at all times and your calm and soothing manner reassuring especially when I have been coping with so much and is a big bonus to your treatment.
I approached acupuncture with an open mind. As a health care professional myself, I have always been receptive to the concept of complimentary treatments and was delighted to find that I was experiencing a slow but steady improvement in my condition. Now some five treatments later, I am feeling much improved with my energy levels approaching the level I would like but more importantly the fibromyalgia significantly improved, and with joint pain now markedly reduced I am able to take considerably fewer painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication on a daily basis.
I recognise that the idea of more needles following a six month course of chemotherapy may be daunting for some people, but I am really delighted that I decided to try acupuncture to aid my condition. The biggest surprise to me about acupuncture is that the needles are so fine that when you are inserting them I have never experienced any pain whatsoever.
Thank you for your care and attention over the last few months and I hope that you can continue to deliver improvements in my condition over the coming months.
